President William Ruto has asked Harambee Stars fans to maintain discipline during the teams Sunday match against Zambia at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. While saying that the team has made the country proud of their resounding run in the African Nations Championship, popularly known as CHAN, President Ruto asked the fans to behave in their best behavior as well. "Kenyan fans and people, you have done a great job of cheering for Harambee Stars, but we must do so based on the criteria of the Confederation of African Football (CAF)," he said on Friday.

He said this when he addressed a delegation of leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties at the Nairobi Palace. He urged ticketless fans to enjoy the match at public viewing grounds that have been created across the city by the Nairobi County government. President Ruto was responding to the chaotic incidents witnessed during the Harambee Stars match against Morocco, which saw evil supporters break Kasaranis security. The statement of the Head of State has come after the government strengthened security measures following the chaos that occurred during the conflict between Kenya and Morocco.

The dispute resulted in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) charging a fine of Ksh.12 million to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). Drivers have been advised to avoid using Thika Road on Sunday, August 17, during the expected match between Kenya and Zambia. In a traffic advisory issued on Friday by Joseph Chirchir, Chief Traffic Officer in Nairobi County, several important roads will be closed and shortcut lanes will be installed to facilitate movement around the city. These include Aerodrome Road (from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout), Langata Road (from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout) and Mombasa Road (from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout).

Nairobis traffic chief offered five alternatives to drivers using the Thika Superhighway. Drivers from Nairobi CBD planning to use Thika Road were advised to use Kiambu Road on Route 4. Those heading to Mwiki were advised to follow the Ruaraka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi route. On the other hand, drivers heading to Nairobi from Thika, Juja or Ruiru will use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road as there will be a block at Ruiru intersection.

Vehicles from Githurai to Nairobi CBD will use the Githurai 44-Kiambu Road, while those from Nairobi to Kasarani Stadium without vehicle access will be required to use the service line at Exit 7 and Exit 8. Alternatively, drivers from Mombasa Road to CBD will use the Likoni-Enterprise Road at General Motors and Southern Bypass in Ole Sereni.

Drivers heading to CBD from Langata Road will use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road on Mbagathi Road. The traffic plan is part of detailed equipment plans to ensure the successful preparation of CHAN 2024, with thousands of fans and celebrities expected to attend the match.
