The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has lowered the prices of petrol and diesel in its monthly review effective June 15, 2026.

According to the announcement made on Sunday, the pump price of petrol decreased by Ksh. 0.22 per litre, while diesel dropped by Ksh. 10 per litre. The price of kerosene remained unchanged.

In Nairobi, the new retail prices starting June 15 will be Ksh. 214.03 for petrol, Ksh. 222.86 for diesel, and Ksh. 191.38 for kerosene. EPRA stated that these prices reflect the temporary reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products from 16% to 13%, and subsequently to 8%, as outlined in the April gazette notice.

The authority explained that the prices include VAT in accordance with the VAT Act of 2013, as amended by Legal Notice No. 70 of April 15, 2026, the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the inflation-adjusted excise duty rates under Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

EPRA also noted that the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) Fund will be used to cushion consumers during the June pricing cycle. Approximately Ksh. 10 billion from the fund will subsidize diesel and kerosene prices.

In the previous month’s review, EPRA had set petrol, diesel, and kerosene prices at Ksh. 214.25, Ksh. 232.86, and Ksh. 191.38 per litre, respectively. At that time, the downward revision followed a petition from public transport operators concerned about the risk of fuel adulteration due to the price gap between diesel and kerosene.
