Neglect.Neglect is another main cause of trauma.Neglectful parenting style tend to give less attention to children and less care to kids. Therefore these children tend to fail in academics, receive little or zero support.Support they tend to lack include emotional support, physical support, mental support and social support. With all these lack of support,a child develops what is called inferiority complex.Inferiority complex is a feeling that you are being demeaned or degraded.
At a times parents may have domestic conflicts and violence in the same house and maybe a room shared with kids. For parents maybe they will not see the impact the domestic violence can have on their childrens mental health.Domestic violence is a great pathway leading to trauma among children and there is need to improve on the effective methods of solving conflicts such as negotiations, mediation, arbitration and dialogue if at all we want the best out of our children.
Observational learning or social learning refers to learning through imitation and by children observing their parents solve disputes through unrecommended methods then they will have to imitate and copy these ineffective ways.Later in life,if at all the problem is not solved, processed and healing not arrived at, then they can affect ones life either psychologically, mentally, socially and emotionally. These characteristics can show up in terms of drugs and substance use and even development of emotional and behavioural disorders.
