Wanga Defends Broad-Based Govt, Says Gen Z Will Soon See the Benefits
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga says the broad-based government reflects Gen Z’s demands for inclusion and youth empowerment. She defended Raila Odinga’s deal with President Ruto, citing recent youth appointments. Wanga believes Gen Z will soon see the benefits of the unity government.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has said the formation of a broad-based government is in line with the demands of Gen Z, who have been vocal during anti-government protests. Speaking during a TV interview on May 27, Wanga dismissed claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga betrayed Kenyans by working with President William Ruto, insisting the move addresses key national concerns, especially youth and women empowerment.
She pointed out that Odinga has remained committed to issues such as devolution and youth inclusion even after signing a deal with Ruto. Wanga believes that with time, Gen Z will appreciate that the government partnership is addressing their concerns.
To support her point, Wanga cited recent youth appointments, including a Gen Z cabinet minister and 27-year-old Fikirini Katoi Jacobs as Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, as signs of meaningful inclusion.
Her remarks echoed President Ruto’s recent comments where he described the broad-based government as a chance to build a united Kenya that ensures equal participation for all citizens.
